What Size Glove is Right For Your Softball Player?

FOR PLAYERS 13 TO 18

Keep in mind that your hand must control the glove and most girl's hands aren't very big

so they can't control a big glove. Legally the biggest glove you can use is a 14 inch glove,

Which is a HUGE glove. Typically outfielders should use a 12 1/2 to a 13 inch glove and infielders and pitchers should use 11 - 12 inch gloves. The glove doesn't catch the ball, your hand does, the glove only protects your hand. So make sure your hand can move the glove fast enough to catch the ball by being small enough for your hand to control.

FOR PLAYERS 9 TO 12 (depending on how fast they grow)

What was written above is also true for younger players too. The sizes would be

about 1 inch smaller, they have to be able to close their hand on the ball, and still be big enough for the ball to have room to fit in.

REMEMBER GLOVES CAN TAKE A LONG TIME TO BREAK IN,

ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR THE YOUNGER PLAYERS.

TRY TO FIND A SOFTER GLOVE WITH PRE-BROKEN IN LEATHER.

What Size Bat is Right For Your Softball Player?

There are 2 important factors when choosing a bat: length and weight.

LENGTH: Have your player stand up straight, with her arms at her side, stand

a bat up beside her, the end of the bat should come to her wrist.

WEIGHT: the heavier the bat, the more power it generates, but if it is too heavy they can’t

swing it properly. Have your player hold the bat straight out from their body parallel to the

ground with their weak hand/arm, they should be able to hold the bat for at least 10 seconds

with no strain, wiggling of the arm, or having the end of the bat hanging down.
